Very rich, dark purple flowers are produced above dark green foliage in early fall to midfall. A perfect finale to the growing season!
This deer resistant native prefers moist, rich soils, but is easily grown in a broad range of conditions, thriving in full sun or light shade in all but the driest soils. When New England Aster blooms the lower leaves usually dry up, and this is normal. If height becomes an issue, cutting back the stems by mid-July can help control the need for staking.
Bees and butterflies are frequent visitors to this amazing pollinator favorite
This Aster is no different than many others in its family – providing valuable habitat for Butterfly larva and is a nectar sources for bees, wasps, and butterflies.
Native - Butterfly food source.
