Dwarf Feather Reed Grass is a clump-forming upright ornamental grass. It is a low-growing cultivar reaching only about 2 feet high and 3 feet wide with flower spikes about 4 feet high. It is a warm season grass with bright green leaves and golden flower that are visible in summer.
This plant is suitable as a specimen or a massed planting where its form and shimmering flowers can create a beautiful vista, especially when backlit in early morning or late afternoon. The plant is usually retained for winter interest and cut back in early spring.
Appearing a bit like a dwarf 'Karl Foerster', this shorter hybrid forms a dense mound of green foliage that is topped with a profusion of golden brown inflorescences later in the season. It is best planted en masse as an underplanting to taller trees or in sweeps across the landscape as a low maintenance groundcover.
