2009 Perennial Plant Association Plant of the Year. Hakonechloa All Gold has glowing golden-yellow foliage bringing a brighter presence into the shade garden. A bit more upright than the species but will still gently cascade in the distinctive Hakone grass habit. Will take on a more chartreuse coloring in full shade. Hakonechloa are one of the best ornamental grass choices for shade. Likes a moist humus-y soil, and good drainage.
