Canada Anemone (Anemone canadensis) provides an excellent groundcover for medium to moist soils, with attractive foliage and refreshing bright white flowers rising above the foliage at a height of 18”. Plants will spread rapidly by underground rhizomes – install them one 15 to 18 inches on-center for a solid carpet of blooming groundcover in one or two seasons. With adequate moisture the foliage will look great all season long.
It is an excellent choice for a sunny moist area where there is space to fill, or perhaps a hard-to-mow damp area. Canada anemone intermingles beautifully with larger native wildflowers and sedges that have either fibrous or taproots. Mingled with Fox Sedge it creates an attractive surrounding for large plants such as Blue False Indigo, Ironweed, Joe Pye Weed and others.
Canada anemone attracts early season pollinators. The foliage is unpalatable to deer and other browsing animals.
