‘Skyracer’ was selected by the late plantsman, Kurt Bluemel, and packs a majestic landscape surprise. It starts out in spring as a green, three-foot mound of half-inch-wide foliage. In midsummer, changes occur, transforming it from unassuming into spectacular. Numerous thin stalks rise out of the mound six feet high, creating an elegant structure for holding the airy seed heads that form at the end of each stem. When backlit by the sun or contrasted against blue sky, the effect is dramatic and breezy. Foliage turns golden colored in the fall, adding winter interest to the landscape.
Moor grass makes a wonderful specimen, but it can also look lovely planted in small groups with plants spaced three to four apart. It prefers full sun and is tolerant of poor or rich soil.
