This is the first hybrid False Indigo selection to be introduced from the Chicago Botanic Garden, part of the Prairieblues™ series. It forms a tall and bushy clump of healthy blue-green leaves, bearing long tapering spikes of violet purple flowers with yellow markings. Plants burst into flower towards late May, lasting for several weeks with nice foliage effect for the remainder of the season.

This cultivar seldom, if ever, produces seed pods in fall.

Baptisia australis is native to the prairies of North America, so it is easy to grow and will thrive with little maintenance. There are many potential applications in the landscape including meadow plantings, as a backdrop in borders, or as a specimen. Plants are very long-lived once established.

It is adaptable, easy growing and makes a good companion for other rugged plants such as ornamental grasses.

A very permanent and striking perennial with a vase shape. Blue/green foliage on silver stems is topped by soft lupine-like flowers from late spring into summer. The black seed pods can be left on for additional ornamental effect or used in dried arrangements. Extremely long lived, so pick a good spot!
